Johnny’s Lounge will host a drag night to benefit Smile Network International on Monday, July 28. The event features performances by Le Duet, Ineeda Richman, Villain Kush, and Mistress Bootie Callena, along with live music, dancing, and DJ Brian. Tickets are 500 pesos (including food) and are available at Johnny’s, Fenix Realty, and Cola de Gallo. Doors open 4 p.m., and the show starts 5 p.m.

Libby Townsend’s table, featuring handmade jewelry and baskets crafted by the Tarahumara of the Copper Canyon, is just one of the vendors participating in American Legion Post 7’s Christmas in July Bazaar and Bake Sale, Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Morelos 114, Chapala.
Chapala Birders
Join team leaders Robert and Mugs McConnell on Tuesday, July 29, at 8 a.m. at the sculpture in La Floresta for a birding trip to La Manzanilla de la Paz on the south side of the lake, en route to Mazamitla. Expect sightings of hawks, woodpeckers, sparrows, warblers, and wrens. The group will park halfway up the creek path and hike to the dam and back for a short refreshment break, then continue down the lower path. The total walking distance is approximately 2.5 km. Bring your own mid-morning snacks and lunch for a 1 p.m. break. Return is expected around 3 p.m.

The 11th annual BBQ Fiesta at Rangers in El Salto will take place on Sunday, August 31. Rangers donates 100 percent of ticket sales to La Ola Girls’ Home and Mama Cleo’s Boys’ Home. A 700-peso ticket includes a generous plate of brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, wings, dessert, and one drink. Guest pitmasters from four top Texas BBQ joints will be featured, along with live music from Jimmy Baquero and the Bluesbird Band.
