Tsunami alerts were activated along the Jalisco coast following one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded.
The 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off eastern Russia on July 29, triggering tsunami warnings and evacuations across much of the Pacific. Reports indicated waves up to four meters high in some remote regions.

However, Puerto Vallarta’s Civil Protection and Firefighting force remained on high alert through Wednesday morning regarding potential changes in wave activity. The head of the department urged citizens to avoid beaches and stay updated via social media for any developments. The alert was lifted around midday Wednesday.
The only affections in Mexico were slight changes in wave heights reported off Baja California, but generally no significant impact from the quake was observed.
