Poet and children’s author Judy Dykstra-Brown will present her two most recent books: a book of love poems, “If I Were Water & You Were Air,” and the children’s book, “Fish Feet,” at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Saturday, March 21, 2 to 4 p.m. With her will be John Sacelli, who will showcase his book, “Lynx in Time,” which details more than 60 years of adventure, mystery, spirit dreams, miracles, near-death experiences with angels, totems, shamans, demi-gods and other dimensional beings. Becky McGuian will give a musical performance of “Fish Feet.”

 

Open Circle

Claudia Miramontes presents “Come to Know Mexico: Civic Commemorations and their Meanings” at Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society on Sunday, March 22, 10:15 a.m.

How do national commemorations shape a country’s identity? This talk explores the history behind Cinco de Mayo and how 19th-century foreign intervention altered Mexico’s political path and global relationships.

Miramontes, the director of the Ajijic Cultural Center, brings history to life through cultural education and heritage preservation. A longtime Chapala resident, she also honors the artistic legacy of her father, master sculptor Miguel Miramontes, and champions museum access for underserved youth.

 

Agave minded

The Lake Chapala Society is running a trip to Tequila on Tuesday, March 24. The day-long excursion begins at 9:30 a.m., and the return to Ajijic is at 6:30 p.m. The cost for LCS members is 1,470 pesos and 2,100 pesos for non-members.

 

Learn to dance

Sunday, March 22, 5:30 p.m. Cumbia Night Plus takes off at Mario’s Restaurant, Hidalgo 22 in Ajijic, with instructor Elizabeth leading you in cumbia, salsa, bachata and line dancing.

 

Bingo

• The Cruz Roja holds a fundraising bingo game at Bonanza Restaurant (the old posada) on Wednesday, March 25, (and every Wednesday thereafter), 1:30 p.m. Bingo packages are 200 pesos.

• Bingolago is held every Wednesday at El Sombrero Restaurant in Ajijic. The game starts at 1:30 p.m. The bingo package is 200 pesos.

• Progressive Bingo at Scallions Bistro Ajijic is every Saturday, 1 p.m. ANAVETS MEXICO UNIT 19 is running the event.

 

Viacrucis film

A short film by David Cueto on San Juan Cosala residents’ participation in the 2025  reenactment of Jesus’ procession to Calvary Hill will be shown at El Hospitalito Museum Cultural Center, Cardenal Sur 66 in San Juan Cosala, Saturday, March 28, 7:15 p.m. Free entry.
