Purr-fect Style
High fashion near the high seas takes place at Daiquiri Dick’s Restaurant (Olas Altas 314) on Tuesday, January 27, starting at 10:30 a.m.
This is the second year for the PuRR Project Fashion Show and Brunch. Elegant, tropical clothing and accessories will be modeled as designers from local boutiques show off the latest styles. They include Sucesos Boutique, La Santa Boutique, Tonalli Tienda, and original jewelry designed by artisans working on Calle Venustiano Carranza.

PuRR Project has over 130 adorable cats and kittens in residence. Donations are the only source of funding to provide food, shelter and veterinary care for these rescued animals and events like this help provide those necessities.
Ride ‘Em Cowboy
The 4th National Charro Championship – Grand Premio 2015 – takes place at Arena Vallarta, January 29 through February 1. It is located at Carretera Las Palmas, just 20 minutes southeast of the airport.
Competitors come from 24 of Mexico’s top charro associations. The competition includes several categories: the Cala de Caballo (horsemanship and reining skills), La Terna (team roping and bulldogging), Manganas (lariat work and horse roping) and the heart-stopping Paso de la Muerte (the charro’s leap of death from his bareback mount to galloping unbridled, untamed mare).

Anchors Aweigh
The competition will be fierce at the Vallarta Cup Race Series, scheduled on the first four Saturdays in January.
This event is organized by the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) and includes the participation of approximately 25 boats, mostly from Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, the Marina in Puerto Vallarta and the Paradise Village Marina in Nuevo Vallarta, which also serves as headquarters for the race.
The associated benefits of this event filter through to the commercial arena, as every competition has a theme party that includes a dinner featuring dishes from local restaurants and plenty of music.

Pedal Away
Get on your bike and ride every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Puerto Vallarta’s Via RecreActiva.
The event is modeled on the successful program in Guadalajara, which sees dozens of city streets and avenues closed to traffic on Sundays.
In Vallarta, Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio – the main road linking the airport and downtown – will be closed from the Sports Stadium, across from the Sheraton, to the Holiday Inn. Traffic will be diverted to the laterals.
For six hours, locals and tourists are able to ride bikes, jog, walk and skateboard, free of cars on the port’s principal thoroughfare.
Maritime Facelift
The marina terminal in Puerto Vallarta will be scheduled for improvements during 2015. Mexico’s federal government has earmarked around 76 billion pesos (just over US$5 billion) to upgrade the country’s ports used for cruise ships and trading.
The Puerto Vallarta marina terminal can accommodate two docked cruise ships and more can be anchored. There are new docking options planned so cruise ships staying overnight can be serviced better. A wider boardwalk along the terminal with visitor information booths and shops to welcome cruise ship passengers is scheduled to be added. Plans have not been completely finalized but construction is scheduled for later this year.
Cruise ship traffic increased in 2014 by 40 percent over 2013 totals, and in 2015 the port has already confirmed over 140 dockings, an increase of nearly 30 percent over last year.
