Get Cooking

Dust off your old time recipes and get cooking. The 5th annual American Legion Charity Chili Cook-off is set for Saturday, February 25, 1-5 p.m., at El Rio BBQ Bar and Grill in Paso Ancho, Felipe Angeles 245, right on the Rio Cuale.

If you don’t want to cook, it’s an all-you-can-eat chili feast, featuring recipes from around 20 popular PV restaurants, sponsors and local cooks. They are competing for trophies and bragging rights. There will be two categories of chili judging, one by popular vote from attendees and one by professional judges.

The cost is 250 pesos per person, which also includes an order of El Rio’s famous smoked riblets and an agua fresca. Regular El Rio menu items will be available. Entertainment will be provided by several hot musical groups. All proceeds from the Cook-off go to the local American Legion charities.

This event sells out quickly. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance from any of the event’s sponsors, including Steve’s Sports Bar, Basilio Badillo 286 and Carol’s Boutique, Basilio Badillo 250 both are in Old Town. Directions: From the south or El Centro/Old Town, take the Libramiento through the small tunnel, then turn right at the signal just past the bridge. From the north, turn left at the signal after the large tunnel and just before the bridge. Free parking will be available. The Ruta 04 Blue bus from Old Town, which you can catch on Lazaro Cardenas, drops you off at El Rio’s front entrance.

PuRRfect Style

The feline minded models are strutting their stuff at the 4th Annual PuRR Project Fashion Show & Brunch on Tuesday, February 7, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Daiquiri Dick’s Restaurant, Olas Altas 314 on Los Muertos Beach.

This is an elegant brunch and fashion show extraordinaire to benefit PuRR Project. What a great opportunity to see all of the latest fashions of tropical clothing and accessories, while enjoying a fabulous three-course brunch, complete with mimosas.

The show features beautiful women’s, men’s and children’s fashions from Sucesos Boutique, Colección La Bohemia and Ropero de Jovany. These will be complemented by fabulous jewelry designed by Kimberly Rei. All clothing and jewelry will be available for purchase after the show.

PuRR Project is a non-profit shelter that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal to adopt them out to loving homes. The shelter has over 175 adorable cats and kittens in residence. Donations are the only source of funding to provide food and veterinary care for these rescued animals and events like this help provide those necessities.

Join the PuRR Project team for a morning of food, fashion and fun with other animal lovers. There will also be a raffle with fabulous prizes, so make plans to attend now.

Healthcare Resources presents the 7th Annual Medical Matters Conference Monday, February 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, Paseo de la Marina Nte 435, in Marina Vallarta. The event is free of chzrge.
