The untimely August 5 death of John Thomas Faloon has left Ajijic with an irreparable void and deep sense of loss among the many people who cherished one the community’s most prominent and endearing long-time foreign residents.
The Lake Chapala Chapter of Democrats Abroad Mexico will begin a seven week long voter registration drive for U.S. expats next week.
The first sessions will be Monday, September 1, at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS), and Wednesday, September 3, at Salvador’s Restaurant in Ajijic. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Moringa Madres is a new project in San Juan Cosala designed to provide work and additional income for local families who receive weekly food packages from Operation Feed.
The August competition of the Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) was held during the Monday, August 18 monthly meeting at Min Wah Restaurant. Categories in the competition were Chinese main dishes and cakes. Judging the entries in terms of flavor and presentation were Betty Leung, Alvaro Beas and Norma King.
The Lake Chapala Society drew a big crowd of rockers last Saturday for a rollicking revival of the 1969 Woodstock music festival. Scores of Age of Aquarius survivors decked out in rainbow-hued outfits to get in the groove for the four-hour blast from the past.
The newly formed Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club presented three of its members with the honor of becoming a Paul Harris Fellow at the club’s August 14 meeting at the Hotel MonteCarlo’s Salon Verde in Chapala.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ajijic, and under the guidance of faculty advisor and Assistant Director for Student Life Alejandra García Franco, 14 enthusiastic students of the Instituto Internacional have started a Rotary Interact club and are looking forward to their inaugural ceremony which will be held at the school in September.
