While some eateries at Lakeside close for the holidays so they and their staff can have some time at home, many continue to slave away in the kitchen on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and some keep their clients happy both days. Here’s a list of those we know who will do their utmost to please you and keep you out of the kitchen.

The first green beans, onions, radishes, herbs lettuce, beets, corn and chard at Operation Feed’s new community garden in San Juan Cosalá have been devoured with gusto. Garbanzo beans and squash will be ready very soon.

Lina and Rick Bleier of the Rotary Club of Montrose, Colorado recently arrived with a large consignment of donated fire gear for  local bomberos (firefighters).

Thanks to the organizational activities of Ajijic Cares, World Aids Day was commemorated on December 1 for the first time in Ajijic. Throughout the day members of VIHAS de Vida, the Guadalajara educational and support group, visited two high schools and were on hand on the Ajijic malecon handing out information about HIV/AIDS.

The Christmas story comes to life in the charming Nativity tableaux to be presented next week at the Chapala and Ajijic parish churches. Adults, children and infants are recruited to portray the Holy Family, shepherds and angels in a variety of different settings representing ethnic cultures from different parts of Mexico and other parts of the world.

The students at the hospitality school in Jaltepec received an unexpected lesson in coping with the unexpected while their guests received an additional holiday tradition during the December 3 evening Christmas dinner event.
