DIF Chapala fetes local seniors

August 28 is a date set aside all across Mexico for paying tribute to senior citizens, alternatively known as Dia del Abuelo or Dia del Adulto Mayor. To mark the occasion this year, Chapala’s DIF family development center hosted a big celebration for the community’s elders on Friday, August 30.

On Saturday, August 2, maestros Jose Luis Cortez, an award-winning ceramicist from Tonala, and Jose Manuel Robles, a painter from Tlaquepaque, spoke to the children at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Children’s Art Program about the importance of Mexican Folk Art and helped them with ideas for their artwork.  

Rain Dance moves feet, minds and hearts

Libby Townsend’s second annual Tarahumara Rain Dance drew a crowd of 40 lakesiders intent upon conjuring up the good graces of Mother Nature and lending support to the Complejo Asistencial Clinica Santa Teresita located in Creel, Chihuahua.
