The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ), Jalisco State Choir and Jalisco Ballet have unveiled a roster of seasonal presentations set for Guadalajara, some of them free.

DREAM ON, BALLET LOVERS. After almost complete immobility during the pandemic, the Ballet de Jalisco announced “The Nutcracker” in November and seats sold quickly. Even added performances have not prevented the tickets for five performances at Teatro Degollado December 17 to 19 from selling out completely.

Not surprisingly, most consist of beloved Christmas classics. The exception is an OFJ special concert, presented one day only, Sunday, December 5, 12:30 p.m., at the renowned Teatro Degollado, consisting of the top five winners of the 2021 National Orchestral Composition Prize, entitled “Raíces 2021” (Roots 2021).

This concert, played under the baton of OFJ Director Jesús Medina, will consist of pieces by a group of young Mexican men, of whom first-place winner Charles Philip Daniels Torres, was, at the age of 34, the oldest. Daniels, whose “Hacia lo Profundo” (Towards the Deep) was judged as superior, is from Mexico City and has also won competitions in Hangzhou, China, and Lithuania.
