Equestrians from the state of Jalisco roped in top awards across the board at the LXXVIIICampeonato Nacional Charro held October 7 through 30 in the city of Zacatecas under the auspices of the Federación Mexicana de Charrería.
It was a fittingly glorious end to the competitions dedicated this year in memory of Jalisco’s eminent singer, movie star and lifelong charro Vicente Fernández.
Fernandez, who died last December, was founder of the Tres Portillos empire, named in a tip of the hat to his three sons. At the height of his fame he developed a huge ranch on the outskirts of Guadalajara near the international airport where he built the VFG arena, a country style restaurant and a western wear clothing store.
