The Guadalajara Open Akron, a WTA 500 event, will take place from September 8 to 14, at the Panamerican Tennis Center in Zapopan, starting just two days after the U.S. Open women’s final.
The top seed will be world No. 11 Emma Navarro from the United States. Other top players include reigning champion Magdalena Fręch (Poland, currently ranked 39th), Elise Mertens (Belgium, 21st), Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia, 24th), Magda Linette (Poland, 29th), Veronika Kudermetova (Russia, 32nd), Leylah Fernandez (Canada, 33rd), Anna Kalinskaya (Russia, 34th), Peyton Stearns (United States, 37th), Tatjana Maria (Germany, 58th), and Sonay Kartal (United Kingdom, 108th).
Fręch won her first WTA title in Guadalajara in 2024, defeating Olivia Gadecki of Australia in the final.
The Panamerican Tennis Center previously hosted the 2021 WTA Finals during the Covid-19 pandemic, and since 2022, the Guadalajara Open Akron has been a fixture on the WTA tour, although it moved from WTA 1000 to WTA 500 status last year.
