It’s not uncommon to see dogs prowling rooftops in Mexico, often dispatched there by ignorant pet owners to bake in the excruciating heat. What’s not so common is to fimd an adult jaguar  staring down from the roof of a house.  

One such feline was spotted this week on a rooftop in Tonala, much to the surprise of neighbors.  Personnel from the state Environmental Agency (Semarnat) were quickly mobilized and evacuated 30 nearby homes and cordoned off a two-block area around the property.

Eventually a sniper managed to sedate the one-year-old, 50-kilogram jaguar with a single shot.

The animal was  taken to the Guadalajara Zoo.  Apparently, the feline had escaped from a nearby residence where several wild animals were being kept.  

As of Thursday, the owners of the jaguar had not been located.

Zoo authorities said the feline is "doing well."
