A massive cloud emanating from the far side of the Cerro de García standing out prominently on Lake Chapala’s south shore alerted local authorities to the extensive forestland blaze that broke out on Tuesday, May 14.

Firefighting brigades from lakeshore communities, Jalisco Civil Protection, the state environment agency Semadet and the Aipromades Inter-municipal Association were still on the ground combating the flames at press time.
