Gang of bank robbers detained

Police detained gang leader Raymundo Martinez on October 4 as he loitered in the vicinity of a branch at the corner of Union and Niños Heroes in Colonia Obrero. A sharp-eyed clerk had recognized Martinez from two previous raids on the bank and quickly notified authorities.

Najera said Martinez – who worked as a police officer in the 1990s – offered up the names of three accomplices, who were later arrested.

State authorities said the gang made off with an average of 21,000 pesos in each of the 30 robberies they have now confessed to.
