Red Cross to begin annual collection

Jalisco Red Cross Delegate Miguel Angel Dominguez stressed this week that only four percent of funds raised during the month-long effort is used for administrative costs. The vast majority of the money goes toward maintaining the Red Cross’ fleet of ambulances, training volunteers, operational expenses and other humanitarian needs, he said.

Some 15,000 collection pots will be distributed throughout the state this year.

Last year’s collection raked in 10.77 million pesos. While that may appear a healthy sum, Dominguez pointed out that with Jalisco’s population registering 7.3 million inhabitants, the total of Red Cross donations works out to a meager 1.46 pesos per person.

“We aim to double the amount this year,” he said.

Jalisco Red Cross’ annual budget is estimated at 120 million pesos.
