Noted ‘hacker’ shot to death

A man who ran information security and ethical hacking courses out of Guadalajara has been shot to death in the city’s Colonia Moderna.

Raul Robles, 31, was shot six times at close range by a hooded gunman as he sipped coffee with his father in the Salon 22 cafe last week.

A controversial figure in the cyber-security world, Robles was the CEO of Hacking Mexico, a company that purported to offer courses to agencies such as the Procuraduría General de la República (PGR), Centro de Investigación y Seguridad Nacional (CISEN) and Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP), as well as universities and NGOs.

Guadalajara municipal police chief Salvador Caro revealed that Robles had recently received online death threats.

A few days before Robles was killed, Hacking Mexico gave a demonstration in Mexico City, Puebla and Monterrey on how to hack into an online casino site.
