Pioneering Guadalajara Mayor Enrique Alfaro is determined to fulfill his stated goal to “clean up” the historic city center – quite literally!
The mayor this week showed off new water blasting equipment that is being used to remove dirt and stains from plazas, sidewalks and pedestrian walkways in the downtown core. Tire markings on streets will also be removed, he said.
The task of sprucing up the center has been outsourced to Plastic Omnium, the same business that has the municipal litter bin concession.
The expectation is to clean 30,000 square meters over the next two months at a cost of 247,000 pesos.
All detergents used will be biodegradable, Alfaro promised.
