Tuesday, September 11 the armed robbery of a woman was foiled by a law enforcement agent in the Chapalita neighborhood of Zapopan.
However, during the car chase the agent’s Toyota Highlander collided with a Mini Cooper containing a couple and their five-month-old baby. The Cooper was in turn thrown against three parked cars, a Mirage, a Mazda SUV and a Chevy pickup.
The incident took place at the corner of Santa Maria and Cubilete at 2 p.m. when two men held up the victim at gunpoint, relieved her of 500 pesos and her cellphone. The agent witnessed the attack while on his rounds in his mid-sized SUV, and gave chase. The thieves fled on a motorcycle, firing their weapons at the SUV as they sped away.
The family of three, while suffering injuries, survived, as did the agent.
One of the thieves was shot in the head but survived. He is currently hospitalized in grave condition. His partner escaped.
