Fake vaccines
U.S. pharma giant Pfizer has confirmed that fake doses of its Covid vaccine are being sold and applied in Mexico.
According to news reports, 80 people were given counterfeit Pfizer vaccines at a clinic in the northern state of Neuvo Leon. While labeled as the Pfizer/BioTech vaccine, the vials were not the kind used for its Covid shots, the company said. Mexico’s free vaccination program is being organized exclusively by the federal government, with the private sector as yet not involved in any shape or form.
Postponement
Health care personnel from Jalisco’s private sector, as well as workers in public health institutions yet to receive a Covid vaccination, won’t be getting shots this week despite being told by state authorities on Tuesday that inoculations would start Thursday at the Benito Juarez Auditorium in northern Guadalajara. A statement Wednesday evening from the federal government said that the scheduling had changed and a new date would be announced shortly.
Fire damage
The two large fires that broke out in the Primavera Forest in April scorched 22 percent of the nature reserve’s territory, according to Jalisco’s Environmental Agency (Semadet). In total, 6,874 hectares were affected – equivalent to 22 times the combined size of Guadalajara’s Metropolitano, Colomos and Solidaridad parks.
