Tequila lovers will be in their element at the 10th edition of Expo Tequila, to be held at the Centro Cultural El Refugio in Tlaquepaque Friday, September 2 through Sunday, September 4.
More than 50 distillers are set to showcase their liquor at the event, which also offers a wide range of ancillary attractions, including gastronomy, crafts and entertainment.
A key attraction will the display of the most expensive bottle of tequila in the world, valued at $US3.5 million. The one-of-a-kind 1.3 liter tequila bottle, known as “The Diamond Sterling,” was created by Tequila Ley .925, and its seven-year-old, 100-percent agave tequila was distilled by Hacienda La Capilla. However, it’s the outside of the bottle, designed by Mexican artist Fernando Altamirano, that drove up the price tag. It contains 4,000 diamonds, which are set in a five-pound bottle made of platinum.
Previous editions of the expo have featured tequila tastings and food parings, art exhibits, and musical and dance performances (from 3 p.m.) each day. While the event’s Facebook page, as yet, does not include the cost of entry, visitors were charged 100 pesos the last time the expo was held, in 2019.
