Environmental Science Museum to open this year

University of Guadalajara (UdeG) Rector Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí has vowed that the ground floor of the unfinished Museum of Environmental Sciences (MCA), located in the University Cultural Center (CCU) on the metro area’s northern beltway, will open this year, despite the continued lack of funding from the Jalisco State government.

Villanueva said that the museum will operate thanks to a collaborative agreement between the Museo del Mañana (Museum of Tomorrow) in Río de Janeiro, Brazil and the Museo Interactivo de Economía (Interactive Museum of the Economy) in Mexico City. Funding to complete the museum was not included in the 2023 state budget, a decision that provoked a bitter war of words between Villanueva and Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro. Villanueva has said the MCA will be an essential educational contribution to society at a time when there are multiple threats to the Earth’s fragile environment.
