Year-end inflation

Annualized inflation for 2022 in Mexico closed in 7.82 percent, according to the Banco de Mexico, the country’s central bank. 

The December rate was 7.80 percent.  Meanwhile, the federal government announced this week that it will be extending its anti-inflationary measures for another year by adding around 30 new products to its list that are exempt from import tariffs, in order to control prices.

No more bird flu

Agriculture authorities in Jalisco have lifted the quarantine order at poultry farms in 21 municipalities imposed after a bird flu outbreak was reported November in San Miguel el Alto, in the Los Altos eastern region.  A widespread vaccination program was subsequently implemented and, according to the Jalisco Agriculture Department (SEDAR), is progressing fast in the municipalities of San Miguel el Alto, Valle de Guadalupe, Jalostotitlán and Tepatitlán de Morelos.  No further cases have been reported since the original outbreak.

Death in Tapalpa

A woman died after falling from the large stones referred to as “Las Piedrotas” located on the outskirts of Tapalpa. The 42-year-old woman fell from a height of 16 meters after scaling the rock to take a photograph.
