GDL debuts new police command center

Guadalajara municipal authorities last week opened a new (C5) police and emergency services operations center that municipal authorities say will be able to swiftly respond to reports of robbery and assault, and also help in the search for missing persons.

Located at the intersection of Calles Alemania avenue and Noruega, the command center will be the hub for the municipality’s video surveillance network comprising 210 of its own cameras, plus those connected to Jalisco’s C5 system, making a total of 3,300 cameras covering the entire municipality.

City hall is expected to authorize the purchase of another 300 cameras to be installed over the course of the next 12 months. Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus said an advanced facial recognition system will be installed to help identify missing persons and work with their families to solve disappearances.
