Jalisco runner bags Olympic spot

Jalisco marathon runner Citlali Moscote has become the first Mexican athlete to earn a place in next year’s Olympic Games.

Last weekend, the 27-year-old athlete ran a time 2:24:53 in the Seville Marathon in Spain, fast enough to guarantee her a spot in the games to be held in Paris, France from July 26-August 11, 2024.

Moscote was born in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco in 1995, and studied marketing at the University Center for Administrative Economic Sciences (CUCEA) of the University of Guadalajara. She was sixth in the 2019 World University Games, won the Mexico City half-marathon in 2021, and placed tenth in the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon in July 2022.
