The first rainfall of any note of this year’s temporada de lluvias (rainy season) doused the Guadalajara metropolitan area on the evening of Monday, June 26.
Even though the precipitation was described as “light to moderate,” it still managed to create problems for some motorists in parts of the city that are traditionally prone to flooding. These included the junction at avenidas Patria and Beethoven, where the rainwater converged and rose to alarming levels, forcing the drivers of several vehicles to abandon their rigs.
Winds of between 15 and 24 mph per hour didn’t cause too many problems, although one tree reportedly came down on Avenida Maestranza, and various traffic lights went on the blink.
