The space is being developed by the venue operator Avalanz Zignia Live, which operates the Arena Ciudad de México (with a capacity of 22,300) and the Arena Monterrey (17,600).
The Arena Guadalajara is described by its creators as “a dynamic, comfortable, versatile and avant-garde venue,” with “its perspective … inspired by its colorful landscape and local materials, such as the Huentitán Golden Quarry and the Tequilero Blue Agave.”
Not everyone is so effusive about the concrete edifice. Occupying the former site of the old Guadalajara planetarium, the project began seven years ago but was suspended in 2020 due to legal issues. Work restarted in November 2022, with a finish date estimated for September 2024.
