Police officer, guard slain
2023 ended tragically for a police officer and a security guard who were shot to death by an unknown assailant on the evening of December 31 on Avenida Patria, in the vicinity of the Central Camionera Nueva (new Bus Station) in Tonala.
The motive for the killings is still under investigation. A homage to the fallen officer was held this week.
Remittances increase
Remittances sent to Mexico from the United States increased 8.7 percent between January and November 2023, according to Mexico’s central bank, Banxico. This amount was US$4.6 billion more than the US$53.15 billion received in the first 11 months of 2022. The average individual remittance sent in this period was US$394, one percent higher than the same period in 2022. The number of operations in this same period grew by 7.7 percent, reaching 146.7 million, Banxico said.
