Check out cute chicks at City Zoo

Guadalajara Zoo claims to be the only one in Latin America with the appropriate facilities and skill set to successfully reproduce Adelie penguins in captivity.

The penguin colony (Mundo Antarctica) was set up at the zoo in 2015. The first chick hatched on December 31, 2021. The zoo, which is recognized for its conservation efforts, recently introduced 13 imported Adelie penguin chicks into the colony to diversify its gene pool.

These have been raised “by hand” by specialists, who have also supervised the hatching of penguin eggs donated by Sea World in the United States. The Zoo is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Paseo de Zoologico 600, just off the Calzada Independencia, zooguadalajara.com.mx, 33-3674-4488.
