Major GDL avenue to close

A 1-5-kilometer stretch of busy Avenida Pablo Neruda will be closed for five months for rehabilitation work.

The closure will be between Avenida Patria and Calle Loma Ancha in the Colinas de San Javier neighborhood.  The cost of the work, which includes resurfacing, and new drainage and pedestrian infrastructure, will be shared between the Zapopan municipal government (22 million pesos) and Guadalajara (five million pesos).

7,730  ‘probable’dengue cases in Jalisco

The Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) says 941 cases of dengue fever were confirmed in the state in 2023, along with two deaths. The real figure is certainly much higher given that few doctors report cases to health authorities, and official confirmation can take weeks. However, the SSJ says it detected “7,730 probable cases” and three serotypes of dengue circulating during the year. Just over 80 percent of the cases were registered in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

Tourism goes up

The Jalisco Tourism Department (Secturjal) has calculated that 34.3 million tourists visited the state in 2023, a 12-percent increase over 2022.

Passenger traffic grows

Passenger traffic at the Guadalajara International Airport rose 13.5 percent during 2023, according to Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), the operators of the facility. Last year, 17.71 million passengers passed through the airport, compared to the 15.60 million in 2022.  The traffic at the Puerto Vallarta Airport grew by 9.4 percent, totaling 6.8 million passengers.
