One of Guadalajara’s most beloved soccer players is set for an emotional return to the city.
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, 35, announced this week that he will shortly sign with the Guadalajara Chivas, the club he left more than 13 years ago to launch his career in Europe.
The son and grandson of two notable soccer players who both starred for the national team, Chicharito joined the Chivas’ boy’s team at age nine and signed his first professional contract at 15.
Between 2006 and 2010, he played 64 times for the Chivas, scoring 26 goals, and gaining fame as one of the country’s finest young talents.
