The drivers complained that when the two services started, they were paying a commission of around 20 percent per ride. That now exceeds 40 percent, they say, making many journeys unprofitable. The drivers said the firms have also made little effort protect them from assaults or theft from their vehicles, both common occurrences. As part of the protest, some 2,000 drivers switched off their apps for several hours, cutting all contact with their parent companies.
