A senior police officer murdered in a Guadalajara neighborhood on January 18 was the 134th homicide of a public security or armed forces official registered in Jalisco during the current administration of Governor Enrique Alfaro, which began in December 2018.
In 2023, 27 security officials were killed in various kinds of incidents.
Commander José Guadalupe Covarrubias, the victim of last week’s hit, had more than 30 years of service in the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office. He was attacked by three men on motorcycles as he was about to get into his car at the intersection of Elías Villalpando and Pedro González in Colonia Jardines de los Historiadores.
