The 2024 spring equinox will occur on Wednesday, March 20, 3:06 a.m. (GMT), meaning that in Mexico, the United States and Canada it will arrive on the evening of March 19.

The spring equinox is one of just two days in the year when the sun rises exactly in the east, travels through the sky for 12 hours and sets exactly in the west. The spring equinox marks the beginning of astronomical spring and, from this day forward, days are longer than nights.
The somewhat unkempt Ixtepete pyramids on the outskirts of Guadalajara are deserted most of the year but leapt into a flurry of activity as “new agers” descended to recharge their batteries with solar energy on the spring equinox. Many of the revelers dress in white and spend much of the day meditating and performing rituals.
Just an hour’s drive west of Guadalajara, the town of Teuchitlan and the ancient ruins of Guachimontones is another place to visit for spring equinox celebrations. Activities ususlly go on for several days before, during and after the spring equinox at the archaeological site, which include some unique circular pyramids.
Other sites in Mexico popular with equinox celebrants include Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacán and Monte Albán.
