The sinkhole is located at the junction with Calle San Antonio in the Las Fuentes neighborhood, about 150 meters from the busy Guadalajara Lopez Mateos/Periferico (ring road) intersection.
Although the sinkhole only covers one direction of the avenue, Civil Protection officers closed off the entire thoroughfare in both directions (four central lanes and two laterals), causing heavy traffic congestion.
At 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro posted on “X” that the sinkhole was caused by damage to underwater hydraulic infrastructure during heavy overnight rains. He said emergency personnel were already assessing the damage, and that repairs would begin as soon as possible.
