Thirty-two teams from across Mexico, together with two international teams from Argentina and Spain, competed in the T21 Futbol 5 Down Guadalajara 2024 tournament for players with Down syndrome, held from September 18-21 in the historic center.
The field for the event was set up along the Paseo Alcalde, next to the Metropolitan Cathedral, allowing the players to showcase their considerable skills to the general public.
“These young athletes train all year for this competition,” Acting Guadalajara Mayor Francisco Ramírez Salcido said at the inauguration. “They are redefining how we view young people with Down syndrome or intellectual disabilities. They are not sick, nor are they angels we need to comfort with a hug. They are athletes with full competitive capacity who deserve our respect.”
