Guadalajara mayor promises to protect missing persons notices

In a break from her predecessors, Guadalajara Mayor Verónica Delgadillo has pledged not to remove the fichas de búsqueda (missing persons notices) posted in prominent places around the city center by relatives of the disappeared.

On her first day in office, Delgadillo promised to respect the efforts of families displaying these notices and even to help them find appropriate locations for them.

“We believe these projections and identification cards should be placed in visible areas,” she said. She also vowed to improve the municipal team responsible for responding to missing persons reports, enhance coordination with the state’s video surveillance system, and maintain an open dialogue with civic groups involved in the search for the missing.
