Opened in 1971, the 18,000-capacity stadium was originally built as the home of UAG’s newly formed professional soccer team, Los Tecos. Named after the university’s founding date—March 3, 1935—the stadium was one of the venues for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, hosting four first-round matches.
