Major water outage to hit metro area

The Guadalajara metropolitan area water utility (SIAPA) will suspend service in 892 neighborhoods on Saturday, January 3. This interruption is due to maintenance and electrical reinforcement work at the Chapala pumping plant.

Although the work will last approximately 13 hours, service will only be restored gradually and is expected to be fully back to normal by Wednesday, January 7.

The suspension will affect more than two million people, primarily in the municipalities of Tonalá and Tlaquepaque.  To assist affected residents, SIAPA will provide 78 free water trucks for households requiring emergency water supply.
