Prominent merchant and daughter slain in quiet Guadalajara neighborhood

A coordinated attack by heavily armed gunmen on a prominent local businessman resulted in a 15-minute street battle, leaving three dead—including a 16-year-old girl—and four bodyguards wounded on the morning of Monday, December 29.

pg1cThe victims were identified as Alberto Prieto Valencia, 57, a well-known merchant and logistics entrepreneur from Guadalajara’s Mercado de Abastos (wholesale market); his daughter, Sara, 16; and one of his bodyguards, identified as Florencio.

The assault occurred around 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Topacio and Brillante avenues, in the Santa Eduwiges neighborhood, just a few blocks from the former office of this newspaper.

Prieto had just left his home in a high-end orange Lamborghini Urus, accompanied by his daughter. They were followed by a white Ram pickup truck carrying his security detail.
