A targeted armed attack on Tuesday, January 27 in the residential Jardines del Tepeyac neighborhood left two people dead and four others wounded, according to state authorities.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. outside a dry cleaner on Avenida Guadalupe, a half block from the intersection with Clouthier. Preliminary reports suggest the attack was directed at Marco Wilfrido, a 35-year-old tax lawyer and aviation school owner who was accompanied by two bodyguards. Authorities confirmed Wilfrido has no open investigation files against him.
Witnesses reported an intense exchange of gunfire as pedestrians ran for cover.
Police arrived to find the lawyer and his two security personnel injured at the scene, alongside a white GMC SUV with multiple bullet impacts. All three were transported to area hospitals, where one of the bodyguards passed away.
Subsequently, authorities located three more gunshot victims in a vehicle several blocks away at the intersection of Avenidas Patria and Del Colli. These individuals, who allegedly fled the initial scene, are considered the suspected attackers.
Jalisco Attorney General Luis Joaquín Méndez confirmed that four individuals carried out the attack, with one escaping. He said that the aggressors were all from the municipality of Tala, though their motive remains under investigation. One of the injured suspects died while receiving medical care.
The investigation is also examining whether the private security company hired by the lawyer held a valid operating license and legal firearm permits.
This is the second high-profile shootout in neighborhoods on the more affluent western side of the Guadalajara metro area in the past month. On December 29, an attack by heavily armed gunmen on a local businessman resulted in a 15-minute street battle, leaving three dead—including a 16-year-old girl—in the Santa Eduwiges neighborhood.
