Minor quake strikes lakeside

An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale with an epicenter six kilometers northeast of Jocotepec was recorded at 10.07 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.

In a subsequent bulletin, the Jalisco Civil Protection Unit and Fire Department said they had not received any reports of damages caused by the quake.  Despite the low intensity of the tremor, it was reportedly felt by many residents of the region, probably due to the late hour that it occurred, a Fire Department spokesperson said.

Soon after the quake was reported by the National Seismological Service, Jalisco Governor Emilio Gonzalez tweeted, “No effects registered. Civil Protection supervising the zone.”
