Big projects lined up for final year of Chapala mayor’s term

The Chapala municipal government has finally dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s for several major projects slated as the current administration’s hallmark public works.
State and federal agencies that will kick in funding have approved blueprints for the following “big three” projects:

Rehabilitation of Avenida González Gallo, Phase One:

Substitution of underground water and sewage lines, repair of sidewalks and new street surface in stamped concrete, running between Paseo Ramón Corona and Calle Degollado. Investment: 25 million pesos from Jalisco’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) under FOCOCI (common fund for municipalities), reassigned from the renewal project for the Malecón commercial zone that was rejected by the National Water Commission.

Renovation of the former Presidencia Municipal (original City Hall building):

New phase of restoration work will involve converting the rear section of the edifice into a roofed public auditorium. Investment: 10 million pesos, in a 50/50 split between the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and SIOP, validated by the state’s Ministry of Culture.

Renovation of Chapala’s Plaza de Armas:

Redesign, reconstruction and beautification of the central plaza to create an open esplanade for civic events on the north end, with resurfacing of the entire area. Investment 3,076,923 pesos from Jalisco Fund for Regional Development (Fondereg).

Also in the works: Installation of a city morgue and forensic science facility, to be temporarily housed in the north wing of the Civil Protection-Fire Department station on the Libramiento by-pass, pending acquisition of a larger plot of land for construction of a permanent headquarters. Resurfacing of Ajijic’s central traffic loop (sections of Calles Colón, Parroquia and Marcos Castellanos). Continuation of rehabilitation of Ajijic Plaza.
