Ajijic man shot dead in broad daylight pegged as dope dealer and friend to expats

A man gunned down outside his Ajijic home Tuesday, September 22 is believed to be a principal supplier of drugs to expat residents who indulge in illegal substances, the Chapala police chief has told the Reporter.

The individual has been identified as Jose Luis “Pepe” Farias Rochin, 62.

The violent incident occurred shortly after noon at Calle Nicolas Bravo 7, a few blocks from the center of Ajijic.  Witnesses reported that Farias was shot by a single male assailant who escaped the scene in a black pickup truck with polarized windows.

According to Chapala police chief Moisés Torres, simple visual inspection of the body revealed that Farias had been struck by gun shots to the forehead, abdomen and lower leg. Several nine-millimeter bullet casings were discovered on the ground.  

A team from the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences retrieved the corpse after several hours and took it to Guadalajara for an autopsy.

Farias was well known around town as an amateur musician who frequented village bars and easily made friends with foreigners due to his fluent English. Torres branded him as a small-time drug dealer, believed to be a principal supplier to expat residents who indulge in illegal substances.
