Chapala has scheduled a variety of special activities tied into the 100th Anniversary of Mexico’s Constitution, promulgated on February 5, 1917.

The Dia de la Constitución Centenniel celebration starts Saturday, February 4, 8 p.m., with a Verbena Popular at Chapala main plaza. The typical pueblo fair will feature include live music, traditional games and stands offering classic foods.

The national holiday will be marked Sunday morning by a flag-raising ceremony at the median strip common opposite the City Hall building, 8 a.m., followed by a solemn session of the city council set at the waterfront Malecón, 9 a.m.

Local students will be enlightened on the constitution’s history by participation in art and essay contests and various educational conferences.
