Navy to take over lake security

While the landing of a Black Hawk helicopter on Chapala’s municipal soccer field raised alarm among the public on February 20, the maneuver was executed to deliver several high-ranking Naval officers for an appointment at the local Capitanía del Puerto (Port Captain Command Post).

The official visit marked the beginning of a process to switch the Harbormaster’s agency from a branch of the Ministry of Communication and Transport (SCT) to operate under the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR). The bureaucratic transition will be completed by mid-July when naval troops will take charge of security duties in Lake Chapala.
