Two suspects sentenced in 2017 kidnapping case

Two men will serve lengthy prison sentences following their recent conviction for the 2017 kidnapping of an Ajijic businessman.

The victim, then aged 68, was held captive while the kidnappers were negotiating with his relatives for the exchange of a hefty ransom for his liberty. He managed to escape and notify the authorities before the payoff was arranged.

Jalisco’s kidnapping investigation squad promptly identified the perpetrators and obtained warrants for their arrest.

Suspect Luis Miguel “N” was collared within a few days and bound over for trial. He has now been sentenced to a 50-year prison term. The second suspect, Gerardo “N”, remained on the lam until February 2018, when he was captured in the state of Tlaxcala. His sentence was set at 60 years. The court decision also obliges the pair to pay a fine of an unspecified amount.
