Representatives of ten charitable organizations were special guests of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Sunday, July 4, attending to receive grants in support of their good works.
Funds totaling slightly more than 300,000 pesos were disbursed in a ceremony held following the 10 a.m. worship service, with members of the congregation remaining there to witness. Checks were handed out next to the altar by St. Andrew’s Rector, Reverend Robbin Moore, and outreach volunteer Weezie Burgess.
The recipient organizations and the application of their respective grants were as follows:
Niños Incapacitados, stipends for three part-time staffers;
Tepehua Centro Comunitario, housing program to prevent health hazards for children;
La Ola Orphanage, rent for temporary accommodations while fund raising for a new facility is underway;
Asociación Feminina Pro-México, supply and placement of a water cistern and submersible pump;
UVA Scholarships, two semesters’ tuition for medical student Bertha Alicia Morales;
Música para Crecer, office supplies and teacher salaries;
American Legion Post 7, roof repairs and waterproofing of two homes of Chapala families in crisis;

Afterwards, the recipients were introduced to the congregation at a coffee reception held in the church garden.

The shop operates Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. New consignments and donated goods are received from 2 to 3 p.m.
