The rollout of Covid-19 vaccination campaigns in the lakeshore region continued this week, with first dose inoculations made available to persons 30 and older,
from July 13 through 16 at Chapala’s Instituto Tecnológico, the Hopsital Comunitario in Jocotepec, the Centro de Salud in Mezcala and a dozen more localities in Jalisco’s Región Sanitario IV.
The type of shots applied to most clinic attendees were the AstraZeneca brand, with Sinovac jabs given to pregnant women.
With infections of the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus surging in the state’s tourism hubs and hitting hardest among young adults, Governor Enrique Alfaro announced that he has petitioned the federal government to modify the national vaccination strategy to help quell a third wave of the pandemic. He requested authorization to begin applying jabs to individuals over age 18 who live and work in popular vacation hotspots such as Chapala, Tapalpa, Tequila, Puerto Vallarta and other coastal towns.
