Local women empowered as budding entrepreneurs

Congratulations are in order for the 20 young women who make up the second generation of graduates of the Segunda Oportunidad adult education program offered at the Centro de Empoderamiento de la Mujer (Center of Women’s Empowerment) in San Juan Cosalá. The center operates under the auspices of the non-profit Asociación Feminina Pro-Mexico.

pg15Members of the class celebrated their graduation on Thursday, October 7, following completion of an intensive six-month course of studies and workshop programs that entailed training in business administration, financial management, use of digital tools and development of personal life projects.

The graduates are all residents of the Chapala lakeshore region, many of them single mothers or main breadwinners for their families. The Second Opportunity program prepared them to forge ahead in starting up or strengthening their own independent enterprises, covering a broad gamut of pursuits, ranging from the creation and marketing of artisanal products to providing gastronomy services.
