Chapala’s homegrown politician Jesús Cabrera Jiménez has picked up a new government post, recently named by Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro to serve as Director General of Economic Development under the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sadar).
Cabrera is a local businessman who has come up through the ranks to become a seasoned public servant. He first served as secretary to former mayor Alberto Alcántar (1998-2000). He was elected to the mayor’s seat for the 2010-2012 administration. And on October 31 he completed a three-year term in the state legislature as representative for electoral district 17, which includes Chapala and Jocotepec.
Cabrera has changed his political stripes through the years, having held affiliation with the PRI, PAN and, most recently, Alfaro’s Movimiento Ciudadano party.
