Chapala Red Cross appeals for pesos

Like most other Lakeside area non-profit organizations challenged by current circumstances, Cruz Roja Chapala (CRC) is scrambling for funds to maintain vital community services.

pg11In an appeal sent out this week, CRC volunteers are asking local residents to open their hearts and pocketbooks for its new “Every Peso Counts” campaign.

“A peso is just a peso until it joins a lot of other pesos; then it becomes a means to purchase medicine, ambulance supplies, gasoline and a myriad of other necessities that will help save lives at Lakeside,” a fund-raising petition reads.

The Chapala Red Cross currently attends to between 1,300 and 1,500 emergencies and 130 to 150 ambulance transports per month. Many of the clinic’s patients lack the resources to cover the cost of the service they receive.

Contributions large and small may be dropped off at the CRC clinic located on Avenida González Gallo just south of Chapala’s Cristiania Park, Yoly’s Unisex Salon at Plaza Bugambilias in Ajijic, or the Cruz Roja booth set up at the Lake Chapala Society on Tuesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon. Donation pickups can also be arranged by request. For other options check the English Facebook page at facebook.com/CruzRojaLakeside.
